Consultation
This is the your first step in hiring me as your doula!! We can do this through email, over the phone, or meet in person. This is usually a quick get to know you chat, find out some basic info, and answer any questions so far! There is no charge for this meeting.
Prenatal Visits
We will meet 2 or 3 times and I will spend time getting to know you and your wishes for your birth. We will talk about the different stages of labor and how we will work together through them. We will talk about comfort measures, breathing techniques, and your partner's role. There probably won't be a topic we won't touch on at some point during out prenatal visits so that I can be prepared to best meet your needs and guide you through your birth experience.
Labor and Delivery
At the onset of labor or if your water breaks, you can call me anytime day or night and we will discuss when would be an appropriate time for me to join you. I prefer to meet you in your home and work with you at home during early labor, but we can go to the hospital whenever you like.
As your labor progresses and you start into active labor and then into transition, I will adjust my comfort measures and your breathing techniques so that you can adapt smoothly to the progress. I will keep you updated on your progress and assist you with any questions you have for your clinical care providers.
After the baby is born, I will support you in staying with your baby as long as you need to be comfortable for further testing/cleaning/etc. I will help you to relax and focus if you would like your baby to latch on right after birth, this can make such a huge difference in that immediate bond and in your future breastfeeding success.
I will stay with you shortly after birth and will leave only when you are comfortable with my departure, usually once you settle into a postpartum room.
(extra note: I will bring a bag of labor goodies and supplies with me for us to use...one of the items will be a very nice, hand sewn hot/cold pack, this will be an item that you can keep!!!)
Postpartum Support
I strongly believe that this time period in your experience is just as important as your prenatal visits and your labor and delivery. This is when you will make your way home with your new baby and you will be establishing breastfeeding. I will visit with you at your home after your baby is born so we can chat about your birth, your beautiful baby, and how your body is healing. I will check on you and those good 'ol hormones and make sure you are feeling good in that aspect.
I am very passionate about breastfeeding and can offer much support for you there as well. I am also available to you by phone or email for 6 weeks after your birth!
